MEET COACH GOOLSBY
LJ Goolsby has served as the Program Director and Head Coach of KC Run GMC (formerly KC Pump N Run) for the past 12 years. KC Run GMC has won multiple tournament titles throughout the country during the 12 year span. Nearly every KC Run GMC player has advanced to play college basketball at some level, including many at NCAA Division I programs.
In August of 2014, Goolsby helped guide the USA Men’s U17 National Team to the Fiba U17 World Championship gold medal in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He also helped guide the USA Men’s U16 National Team to the FIBA Americas U16 Championship gold medal in Punta del Este, Uruguay in June of 2013.
Two recent USA Basketball gold medalists were previous players on the KC Run GMC roster – Conner Frankamp, a University of Kansas player, and Dominique Collier, a University of Colorado player. Frankamp and Collier were members of the 2011 USA U16 National team that captured the gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, while Frankamp returned and lead the 2012 USA U17 World Championship Team to another gold medal. In addition to Frankamp and Collier, Goolsby coached USA Basketball alums Marcus Denmon, who competed on the 2011 USA World University Games Team, and Travis Releford, who competed on the 2008 USA U18 National Team.
A native of Dodge City, Kansas, Goolsby was an AP Kansas All-State selection as one of the top five players in the state among all classifications and a 1993 Converse High School All-American. He played collegiately at Ole Miss(1993-1995) and Wichita State (1995-1997) before his career was cut short due to knee injuries.
Goolsby resides in Olathe, Kansas with his wife Jana and his two daughters, Kyla and Alea.
