Meet Coach Brooks

“It is not possible to master the game of basketball in one or two weeks — just as life skills are not developed in that time. But I will plant the seed for a lifetime of success.”

Damon R. Brooks is an experienced coach who promotes high self-esteem and long-term success for kids through athletics. Damon coached at Lincoln College Preparatory Academy as the Assistant Basketball Coach (Boys Varsity) 2004-2005. He then coached for Blue Valley Northwest High School as the Assistant Basketball Coach (Boys Varsity) from 2007-2011, Assistant Football Coach (Boys Freshman) 2010-2013, Cross Country Assistant Coach 2008-2010 and Track and Field Assistant Coach 2008-2014. Damon has most recently coached for St. Thomas Aquinas as the Assistant Basketball Coach (Boys Varsity) from 2011-2014.

Damon has also coached and been affiliated with many club programs through Summer AAU, including KC Keys 2004-2005, KC Rocktown in 2006, and KC Run GMC (formerly KC Pump N Run) 2007- present. Damon has helped many of those kids achieve their dreams of playing college basketball.

Damon graduated from KC Central High School, where he was a 3 year letter for basketball and track-n-field, as well as a 2 year letter for cross country and football. In 1985-1986 Damon made the all-conference 2nd team, and in 1986-1987 made the all-conference 1st team.

Damon attended Penn Valley Community College on a basketball scholarship from 1987-1989, where he played the point guard position. In 1989 he was voted all district, all area, and all region 1st team basketball. Damon holds the record for all-time assists in one season, all-time assists in two seasons and the most assists in one game (18). From 1992-1994 Damon was the Assistant Basketball Coach for the Penn Valley men’s team, and was inducted into the Penn Valley Hall of Fame in 2010. After attending Penn Valley, Damon went on to finish his college basketball career on scholarship at Southern Nazarene University from 1994-1995.

In addition to his coaching career, Damon has worked with Kansas City area youth for many years through professional organizations, such as Lee A. Tolbert as an Intervention Officer, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City as a Camp Counselor, and Blue Valley Northwest High School as a Para Educator.
